In 2010 I was asked to participate in a seminar held by the Graduate Department of Cultural Studies at Brandeis University. The theme of the seminar was cultural production and intellectual property rights. I was honored to exhibit along side a brilliant group of degree candidates, many of whom have gone on to become important and well respected scholars, professors, DJs, and cultural producers/influencers.
For my contribution, I made a mixtape exclusive for the event, wrote and made a zine about mixtapes and intellectual freedoms, and displayed a series of patterned cassette drawings mounted onto wood board. A limited number of mixtapes (10) and zines (20) were distributed, and guests were also welcomed to sit and listen to the mixtape on a provided shoe-box tape player and headphones. |
