Old New Gate Poems & More
A compilation of the work I did during my summer as Artist & Writer in Residence at Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine in East Granby CT.
This historical site - home to copper mines, the first revolutionary war era jail, countless tourist sites and more - is a wellspring of beauty and inspiration. For their first full season in almost 10 years, I was honored to serve as the resident writer and artist. I sold my goods in the gift shop, assisted a girl scout with her bat-themed final gold-star project, created Earth Poetry, and typed poems for attendees during the grand-opening weekend.
This handmade book is a collection of that work. There are four sections, including one full color section of digitally interpreted Earth Poems and many black and white illustrations inspired by local civil-war era grave carvings.
